ANCHORAGE INFORMATION |
|
Surrounded by all the beauty and activities of Alaska, Anchorage offers a unique blend of spectacular scenery, Russian and Native heritage, Alaskan adventure and big city amenities. Alaska's largest city lies between the Knik and Turnagain arms of Cook Inlet and the rugged Chugach Mountains. It is home to more than 240,000 residents, 40 percent of the state's population, and serves as the financial, communications and transportation hub of Alaska. The municipal boundaries stretch for more than 50 miles from Portage Glacier to the head of Cook Inlet and encompase 1,955 square miles. Anchorage is a city of contrast and variety. After a brisk day of dogsledding, you can dine at a four-star restaurant. The next day you can find yourself cross-country skiing the same trails used by the U.S. Olympic team and later bed down in a cozy bed and breakfast. In Summer, explore the city via some of the 400+ miles of bike trails, or catch a breathtaking view of Anchorage from one of the many mountain peaks that surround the town.
